The guild sponsors weekly Wednesday night critique sessions at Barnes & Noble and LaTaza Coffee House from 7-9 p.m., and at Fuddrucker's restaurant at 9445 IH-10 (Wurzbach exit, in the Colonnade) from 6-9 p.m. and every Saturday at various locations. The critique groups are run in the same fashion as the Thursday night workshops. The various places we meet are listed below, along with information about how to get there and where to find us when you do. Be sure to get on the email notification list by coming to one of the meetings and talking to one of the officers.
The second Wednesday of each month the group gathers from 7-9 p.m. at the Barnes & Noble's address is 321 NW Loop 410 #104. It is near San Pedro and just north of Loop 410. Go north on San Pedro, just a block outside Loop 410. Turn right on Isom Road (it's Lockhill Selma on the left-hand side) and then turn right again into the San Pedro Crossing shopping center. Turn left in front of the first block of stores and B&N is down there.
We will be meeting in the small event space on the left side of the store (Nature/Pets) with two long tables seating up to 16 people.
All are encouraged to come whether you have something to be read/critiqued or not. There is a Starbucks in the Barnes & Nobles for those who need their coffee.
The critique session is held the fourth Wednesday of each month from 7-9 p.m. at the LaTaza Coffee House. LaTaza is located in the shopping center with HEB off Brookhollow and 281. Take 281 and then the Brookhollow exit. If you come at Brookhollow from the south, when you exit, you should either jump over quickly from the exit into the HEB parking lot or use the intersection just ahead of the entrance and turn right. LaTaza is at the northeast corner of the shopping center.
Visit: www.lataza.biz for the coffee house's Web site.
Fuddrucker's at 9445 IH-10 (Wurzbach exit in the Colonnade), 6-9 p.m.
The restaurant is located in a shopping center at the Wurzbach exit of IH-10. The restaurant is directly north of the H.E.B.
They have a party room that we normally use. Yes, you should buy and eat supper there, but I noticed no one at the restaurant seems to check. So if you want, you can get away with just a soda or tea. Fuddrucker's phone number is 210-694-0825.
It starts at 6 p.m. for supper. We'll start reading at 7 p.m. or maybe a little before.
Checkers Diner, 13835 Nacogdoches Road
The location is at O'Conner and Nacogdoches. They've got a website: www.originalcheckersdiner.com, and their phone number is 210-651-1990.
***There is no Wednesday session on the day before our monthly meeting.***
The critique session follows the same basic format as the monthly fiction critique workshops, but is much more laid back. Fiction, non-fiction, and poetry works are welcome. You may present up to ten pages, double-spaced. We suggest bringing along 10 to 14 copies so folks can read along and more importantly, so they can mark their comments on the paper. Taking those comments and seeing how many people mark the same suggested change is very helpful to the writer. There is usually a reading list of who is next, so if you show up and expect your piece to be read, it may not happen. But always bring something to have read. You never know who is going to show up and who isn't.
You do not need to confirm you will attend. Just show up.
Guests and non-members of SAWG are welcome and are encouraged to attend.
